Nitrogen tire inflationNitrogen Tire Inflation

Using 95% pure or better nitrogen gas (N2) in passenger vehicle, RV, bus & commercial truck tires is more beneficial than using standard moisture saturated compressed air.

  • N2 Improves Fuel Economy
  • N2 Improves Tire & Rim Longevity
  • N2 Improves Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Performance
  • N2 Improves Safety
  • N2 Improves Carbon Footprint

Nitrogen itself doesn’t improve everything listed above. It’s about reducing the oxygen & moisture from standard compressed air. Oxygen is a smaller molecule that permeates tires 3 to 4 times faster than nitrogen over an equal period of time. Oxygen & moisture together cause interior tire, valve stem & rim corrosion by the oxidation process. Maintaining the proper tire pressure for a longer period of time & eliminating oxidation, can improve fuel mileage 6% on average & extends tire life upwards to 33%.

Fuel Savings & Carbon Footprint Reduction

The fuel mileage improvement is based on maintaining the vehicle & tire recommended pressure for a longer period of time. Running tires at the proper pressure maximizes the rolling resistance thus improving how much fuel it takes a vehicle to move down the road. Using less fuel lowers an individual’s overall carbon footprint. Every gallon of gas saved lowers the carbon footprint 22 lbs.

Tire & Rim Longevity Improvement

Nitrogen at 95% purity maintains a -50 degree dew point. The higher the purity the lower the dew point. Having nitrogen in tires eliminates all moisture. Moisture causes interior tire degradation. Moisture also cause rim & valve stem corrosion which will cause air to leak from the tire. Nitrogen eliminates all corrosion from happening. Several tests using nitrogen to inflate tires have shown tire longevity improvement upwards to 33%.

TPMS Performance Improvement

All newer vehicles are equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). The reason TPMS devises are installed in vehicles is to make sure that the tire pressure is properly maintained. Standard compressed air can fluctuate upwards to 5 psi on a given day because of ambient air & tire temperatures. Nitrogen isn’t affected as much with temperature changes & doesn’t create as much heat while running on the road. This is why NASCAR & other racing organizations use nitrogen in their race tires.

Safety Improvement

AAA has stated that 90% of all tire blow outs are caused by under inflated tires. Nitrogen allows the tires to maintain the proper pressure for a longer period of time which lowers the chance of a tire blow out. While nitrogen is the proven best gas to fill tires with, it’s still recommended to perform a monthly tire pressure check to ensure maximum performance.
